RELATIVE SUCCESS: Also the show’s cocreator, Brenneman based the series on the experiences of her own mother, Frederica, an ex–superior court judge.
PLEADING HER CASE: Whether serving justice or ice cream, Brenneman is complex and believable.
VERDICT: "Amy is that rare actress who avoids sentimentality," says coexecutive producer Nicole Yorkin, adding that she "makes the series edgier than most shows about women."
PREGNANT PAUSE: The actress’s first child is due next month.
