Q: Judging Amy, starring Amy Brenneman, won our household viewership with its intelligence. Did Brenneman really go to Harvard, like her character on the show? Marilyn Filonow, Stillwater, Okla.

A: Yes. She has a Harvard degree in religion; both her parents are Harvard Law graduates. In fact, Brenneman, 35, created Judging Amy, the No. 1 new drama this season, as an homage to her mother, Frederica, a juvenile-court judge in Hartford, Conn. Semi-retired, Judge Brenneman contributes to the show's intelligence as a consultant. This month, Judging Amy went up against Brenneman's old show, NYPD Blue. She was a regular in its first season and met her husband, Brad Silberling, when he directed an episode.
