Judging Amy, But Fudging The Skyline
The Hartford Courant - February 15, 2000
By PAT SEREMET
There she is, Amy Brenneman, star of the CBS drama "Judging Amy," gracing a page in the February issue of Emmy magazine, a publication for the TV industry. It's the show filmed in Hollywood but set in East Hartford. So what is that skyline in the background of the picture?
Paris? London? River Quai? Brenneman's Landing?
It sure doesn't look like anything Java's ever seen traveling over the Founders or Charter Oak Bridge. Heck, the river doesn't even look like the Connecticut. Oh, it is a very long, arched bridge of some vintage, and it's got some buildings that sort of look like an urban skyline somewhere.
But it's not our town.
C'mon, you Hollywood hacks. You call the show "The #1 New Drama of the Season!" and yet you fail to reveal the real East Hartford.
Where is cinema vérité? We guess not at Showcase.
May we suggest you include these in your east-of-the-river skyline: the graceful tower of Riverpoint condominiums; the stalwart soldier of commerce, Burnside Motors; the legendary Augie & Ray's; the formidable fortress Marco Polo's; and the historic home that hatched East Hartford's Larsonian Democrats, Mayberry Village.
