VQT salutes 'West Wing,' 'Raymond'

LOS ANGELES --- CBS' "Everybody Loves
Raymond" and NBC's "The West Wing" swept the 16th annual Viewers for
Quality Television Awards, winning in seven of the 10 categories, including
best comedy and drama, respectively.
The WB Network's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"won the Viewers for Quality Television's Founder's award.
For "Raymond," the award announcement is deja vu. Last year, the sitcom topped the same four categories --
best comedy, best actor in comedy series (Ray Romano), best actress in a comedy series (Patricia Heaton) and
best supporting actress in a comedy series (Doris Roberts).
"West Wing's" statuettes include wins for Martin Sheen in the best actor in a drama category and John Spencer
in the category for best supporting actor in a drama series.
Tyne Daly, who was named best supporting actress in drama series for CBS' "Judging Amy," rounded out the
number of honors for the eye network to five. NBC follows with four awards, with the help of David Hyde
Pierce, who won the award for best supporting actor in comedy series for "Frasier."
ABC's only nod came for "Once and Again" star Sela Ward, who was honored as best actress in a drama
series.
There will not be an awards ceremony; winners will get their statuettes delivered to them by members of the
Viewers for Quality Television nonprofit organization.
