Variety - August 8, 2002

By By JILL FEIWELL

Women in Film has tapped producer-songwriter David Foster and songwriter wife Linda Thompson as recipients of org's humanitarian nod, the Norma Zarky Award.

Duo will be honored during WIF's combined Crystal and Lucy Awards dinner Sept. 20 at the Century Plaza Hotel. Previously announced Crystal honorees will be Halle Berry, Laura Ziskin and Carolyn Chen; Lucy honorees will be Rosie O'Donnell, Anne Sweeney, Amy Brenneman and Tyne Daly.

"David and Linda's tireless humanitarian efforts are an example of the generosity that sets our industry apart," said WIF prexy Hollace Davids.

"WIF is proud to shine a light on beacons who embody the importance of giving back. The couple has, together and individually, been prominent and tireless in support of the philanthropic community."

Has own charity

Foster has most notably lent a hand through his charity, the David Foster Foundation, which was established in 1986 to assist families of children in need of organ transplants. He also is a supporter of Race to Erase MS, the Andre Agassi Foundation and Cedars-Sinai Research for Women's Cancer as well as others.

Thompson, who penned the tune "Heaven Holds the Ones I Love" for a public service video for Foundation for a Better Life -- to assuage the pain of Sept. 11 events -- is active in such charities as the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the United Cerebral Palsy Spastic Children's Foundation.
