Love in the air for 'Judging Amy' characters

Expect to see the passion quotient ratcheted up on this season's "Judging Amy," which will heat up the romance between star Amy Brenneman's Judge Amy Gray and Adrian Pasdar's character.

"We're doing some really cool stuff with Adrian," reports Brenneman. "I love working with him." His character, prosecutor Doug McClaren, spent much of last season under the cloud of his wife's murder, though he did work up to declaring his feelings for Amy at season's end. He's been seen by many as "the person who could really be a match for Amy Gray, but how is she when someone is actually available and present? She's pretty skittish," laughs Brenneman.

Amy makes it clear that the drama's blend of character-driven story lines and edgy court and child welfare cases are keeping her and co-star Tyne Daly enthusiastic as the show goes into its sixth season, beginning Sept. 28. She also says neither of them wants to continue "Judging Amy" if they find themselves feeling less engaged.

The demands of continuing "Amy" are especially high as Brenneman divides her time between the show and her family - director husband Brad Silberling and their 3-year-old daughter, Charlotte.

"Last week, my daughter had a bad day with her nanny, and I didn't get to see her at all because we had a very long day on set. Then the next night, there was a preview of 'A Series of Unfortunate Events,' " she says of the highly anticipated, December-opening "Lemony Snicket" movie directed by Silberling and starring Jim Carrey. "I realized that if I went to the preview, I would be going five straight days without putting my daughter to bed."

Finally, with Brad's blessing, she decided to see the film another time and spend the evening with Charlotte - still feeling awful about missing her husband's movie. "I used to operate under this delusion that there was a perfect mixture of work and home life, but nobody can do everything," she says.
