Judging Amy
St. Petersburg Times - September 19, 1999
By ERIC DEGGANS
JUDGING AMY, 10 P.M. (premieres Tuesday on CBS, WTSP-Ch. 10; sneak preview tonight at 8) -- Blame the success of
NBC's Providence for this one, starring Amy cqBrenneman (NYPD Blue) as a single mom who moves to Hartford, Conn.,
for a job as a family court judge. Like Providence, it treats a major East Coast city like a small town, pits the
main character against her demanding mother and features an underachieving sibling. Unfortunately, like Providence,
it's also confusing, sappy and hopelessly improbable. Will it survive? Providence scored as an interesting tidbit on
Friday night's vast TV wasteland. Pitted against popular fare such as NYPD Blue and Dateline NBC, Judging Amy hasn't
a chance.
