Viewers lean toward favorable verdict on 'Judging Amy'

NEW YORK -- It was a good week in the Nielsen Media
Research ratings for actress Amy Brenneman, a so-so week
for Miss America and a pretty bad one for a foul-mouthed
fictional movie executive on Fox.
CBS took the week's ratings crown, with television
viewership inching up in anticipation of the new fall season.
Former "NYPD Blue" actress Brenneman stars in CBS' new
"Judging Amy" as a single mother who leaves New York to
become a judge in Hartford, Conn., living with her mother,
portrayed by Tyne Daly.
Although many critics knocked it as a knockoff of NBC's
"Providence," enough viewers tuned in to a special preview
Sunday to make "Judging Amy" the week's most-watched
show after "Monday Night Football." CBS shrewdly debuted
the new series in the time slot usually filled by "Touched by
an Angel."
